How often do you work?
I have chosen to work mornings Monday-Friday as that is what fits best with my family. I only work during the term time so I never have to worry about child care during the holidays!
How does the job fit around your family life?
I couldn’t think of a job that fits more perfectly around my life as a busy mum. My classes generally start around 9am and as they are in nurseries local to me, I am able to do the school drop off each morning. My classes tend to finish around midday depending on each nursery so plenty of time to get back to school for pick up time.
How much time do you commit?
I have chosen to work 5 mornings a week and as my nurseries are relatively local to me there is not too much. I normally leave at 9am, teach around 4, 30 minute classes and am home by lunch time. If I were running the franchise myself, I would then spend the afternoon dealing with admin and business development tasks related to growing my business.
Where do you carry out your work?
In lots of different nurseries in my area! Some days I am in Watford or Hemel Hempstead, some mornings I travel a few junctions down the M1 to North West London. Over the years I have built up a lovely relationship with the staff and children at each nursery so I always get a warm welcome when I arrive!
Do you need a car?
My nurseries are mostly all local but happen to be located in opposite directions so I use my car daily! You have to take a set of props with you such as bubble machines, maracas, parachute, a speaker and puppets, so a car is preferable. We do have one team member who uses public transport though, so it can be done without a car.
Do you get support/training?
Jo offers brilliant training. Initial training is done both online & face to face with Jo & another experienced teacher. If you ever need support, Jo is always on hand to pick up the phone to speak to. She even offers Spanish refresher classes if your Spanish is a little ‘rusty’! We also have a dedicated operations manager who helps with nursery communication making sure we have everything we need
Would you recommend this opportunity to others?
Most definitely! It is the perfect way to combine my teaching experience whilst using my native language. It fits in perfectly around being mum and other commitments. I never have to worry about finding childcare in the school holidays or missing special events such as sports day or Christmas plays. Plus, I just LOVE being silly with all the little ones teaching them Spanish along the way!
Do you advertise?
Jo takes care of all the marketing for our area so I only need to focus on teaching my classes.
Are there any downsides to the role?
I really don’t think so. For the right person wo loves Spanish and loves little ones this is the ideal job. Delivering the classes does take a lot of energy and stamina though so you need to be prepared to jump around lots and be silly too, but the excitement of the children means that there is never a dull moment. Their energy is infectious!
